Travellers' checks are foreign currency payment instruments intended to allow secure carriage and use of cash on trips abroad.
When you carry money in plain cash, there's always risk that it can be lost or stolen. Alternatively, buying travellers' checks at VABank will ensure security of your funds throughout the entire journey.
How does one use a travellers' check?
The principle is very simple: you sign each check once the moment you buy it from a bank; you sign it for the second time at the time of disbursement in front of an accepting person.
Travellers' checks do not have time limits attached. If you still have unused checks after you're back from a journey you may choose to either exchange them back in cash at VABank or keep them until your next trip.
Where are travellers' checks accepted?
Travellers' checks could be quickly and easily exchanged into local currencies in more than 150 countries. In the US, travellers' checks are accepted equally with cash, which makes them a secure payment instrument.
Exchanging a travellers' check into cash takes calling on a bank office or a currency exchange booth having a travellers' check issuer's (say, Thomas Cook's) logo at its front door.
In many counties, travellers' checks are accepted as payment at hotels, restaurants and shops; change is paid in local currency.

What happens if a travellers' check is lost?
As soon as you have noticed the loss you should report it over the phone to Thomas Cook Reimbursement Centre (numbers will be provided by VABank). The Centre operates around the clock during 365 days a year.
In most cases travellers' checks are renewed within a very short time, although in exceptional cases reimbursement may be delayed if the circumstances of loss or theft require additional investigation.
Thomas Cook travellers' checks are protected against fraud, which, however, does not mean they could be treated neglectfully. It is strongly recommended that you use hotel safes or other ways of discretion. Travellers' checks, as much as other valuables, should not be left unattended.
Where could one buy travellers' checks?
Thomas Cook travellers' checks denominated in US dollars or Euros are available in any of VABank's offices. Buying a travellers' check does not require opening an account and does not take long.
Travellers' checks could be bought for cash in either a foreign or Ukrainian currency.
The Bank will attach to your checks a permit for their export from Ukraine that is to be presented at the customs.
How much in travellers' checks could be taken out of Ukraine?
For Ukrainian nationals, the maximum amount is the equivalent of USD 5,000, provided availability of a bank permit.
Non-residents are allowed to take out the equivalent of USD 5,000, provided availability of a bank permit.
Bank permit is valid for 1 year.
